One Month

It's been 1 month since Jack died and Jory and I can't be together today. We've been in Wyoming and Utah for the last month staying with family. Yesterday Jory flew back home to Phoenix for a job interview Monday, then he'll fly back here to SLC on Tuesday.

I found on the M.I.S.S. Foundation website about the Angel of Hope aka Christmas Box Angel is used by parents who have lost a child as a place to go and leave a flower, note or whatever for your own child. Being from Utah I was aware of the Xmas Box Angel but hadn't thought about it yet. Because we cremated Jack, we don't have a "place" to go and grieve or talk to him so before Jory's plane left yesterday we went to find the Angel, since it was his 1 month birthday, but we couldn't find it in time. We had to leave so Jory wouldn't miss his flight.

I'm going back today to find the Angel.

I miss you Jack, I'm falling apart without you and dad here today.

Later.....
When I got there I fell to my knees and bawled for an hour. I cried for Jack and I cried for Jory. Even though it was so sad afterward I felt good, like I let out a lot of sad energy, it almost felt cleansing. Of course when I woke up today it seemed like all that sad energy was back. But I thought I would share the pictures I took with everyone, because I think it's a beautiful place and I wish everyone had such a beautiful place to go and grieve for their child/ren. Anytime we are back in Utah, we will visit Jack and the Angel.

Jory comes back tomorrow and I can't wait to see him!

Here's the statue, someone had left flowers in the angel's hands

Close up. You can't see it from here, but in the left wing, they carved HOPE

Can you see HOPE now?

From behind

And you'll never guess what I saw as I was leaving. I got in my car and drove around the back of the Angel and was stunned to find 2 deer. I immediately turned my car off and pulled out the camera.

See that tree in the middle of the deer, the Angel is right behind it on the right.
Crazy don't you think?

The Whole Story

September 11, 2006
I'm still in shock and don't know if I'm ready to write this yet but I'm going to try because I don't know what else to do right now.

Here's our story, sorry if it's long but it's all still so fresh.

I have severe PCOS with severe insulin resistance and hypothyroidism. We've been TTC for 5 years with medical assistance. We moved from UT to AZ in March 2005. I found my new (amazing) doctor in Jan. 2006. In March '06 I had a large tumor removed from my uterus, it came back clear. He also scraped my uterus and drained all of my cysts and found that they will one day become cancerous. After consulting with 6 Oncologists, they agreed we had time to try for a baby.

Our first try after surgery with Clomid, we got pregnant! We were in shock. After 8 years trying, this was unbelievable! I had no morning sickness, but had to get daily Progesterone shots to keep my level up to normal. I had ultrasounds every 2 weeks because this pregnancy was high risk. We heard the heartbeat a couple times at different appointments and had my 20 week BIG U/S set for Friday Sept. 1st.

Tue. Aug. 29th we went to bed and I had a hard time getting comfortable. After a few hours of tossing and turning I got up and went to the couch and thought I was having really bad gas pains. I was burping and passing gas quite a bit so I wasn't worried too much. I ended up feeling much better and fell asleep the next morning.

(Warming TMI) I woke up Wednesday afternoon and when I went to the bathroom there was really weird discharge, it looked like baby or child's snot with a bit of brown in it. I called my doctor and they made me an appointment for the next morning saying it wasn't abnormal and I possibly had an infection of some sort. I felt completely normal all day and was happy that those gas pains had gone away because that coupled with the weird discharge would have worried me more.

We went to bed around 11:30 PM Wed. night and I immediately felt like I was having a repeat of the night before. I couldn't get comfortable and after a short time I moved to the couch. The pains were a little different from the night before, this time they were more crampy, but I knew I had a doctors appt in the morning and figured I would wait it out, since they didn't seem worried. The more painful the cramps came, the more I got worried and jumped online to try and find out what could be happening. I knew at 19 weeks 3 days it was way too early for labor and this being my first pregnancy I had no idea what contractions were going to feel like and from what every pregnant woman has ever told me...nothing is as painful as being in labor. These felt only a little more painful than regular cramps. And they never seemed to go away, they got worse every 5 minutes or so but the pain never ceased.
By the time I found something about preterm labor it was 4:30 AM. Just as I was making a decision to call my doctor, my husband woke up and insisted I call him. I don't know why I was so worried about waking the doctor, but I didn't want to bother him if it was nothing. I will never wait again!

I called the doctor, his on-call operator was going to page him so I jumped in the shower assuming I might be going to the hospital to be checked.

My doctor called back and told me to go to the hospital triage and tell them I was 20 weeks along (otherwise they won't monitor you, I was 19w3d). I immediately knew something was wrong and my husband and I jumped in the car and I cried all the way to the hospital. The pains continued to get worse and more constant. It was then that I started to wonder if these were indeed contractions.

6:00 AM: The Triage doctor examined me and told me that I was fully dilated and the water bag was covering the cervix. She told us that there was no question that I would be delivering and no chance that our baby would survive. She apologized and left to get the sonogram tech to verify. I completely lost it. I cried like I had never cried before. I knew I needed to be strong but I felt this was my fault. I had waited too long to call my doctor and I had wasted time worrying about whether to wake him or not. How could I ever forgive myself?

The tech came in and was quiet the entire time. We saw our baby, the heartbeat was strong he was moving his arms and legs as if everything was normal. She was measuring his organs and showed us my cervix dilated and the water bag making it's way down. The baby's head was also down ready to follow. The tech left, the doctor came back and again said she was really sorry but they can't risk infection and that I would be moved to labor and delivery as soon as a room became available. She also said they would be giving me as many pain killers as needed to make me as comfortable as possible giving the circumstances.

I was in absolute shock, this was not supposed to be happening to us. Our hearts had broken. Jory and I looked at each other in complete disbelief and cried together. This was our miracle baby, why couldn't I be able to carry him to term? Why are we having all these problems? We are the perfect couple, we will be the perfect parents. Why Why Why?

My doctor (the god that he is) showed up a short time later and came in with a little hope. He said the previous doctor was wrong, I was only 3 cm dilated and there was a chance that with medication they can stop my contractions and with a cerclage we might be able to stop the delivery. He said the chance was small but at least there was a chance. I would be in the hospital until I deliver, whether that be today, next week, or months from now. I didn't let myself believe in the hope because I knew I couldn't handle it if I let myself believe then be disappointed again. He put me in the Trendelenburg position (feet above your head). He gave me some more pain killers and we held tight until a room in L&D opened.

Jory called our parents to let them know what was going on and I told him to have my parents come immediately. I knew we would need family with life experience to handle the plans afterward if this didn't all work out. Within 30 minutes my mom and step-dad were packed and on their way from Logan, UT down here to Phoenix.

11:30 AM: Once they moved me up to L&D my doctor gave me an epidural with much disapproval from the nurses and other doctors because they had me on medication to stop my contractions, an epidural in their minds was unnecessary. But he knew, even with the pain killers I was in so much pain and discomfort as well as an emotional hell that an Epidural would lift some of that pain away especially if they weren't going to be able to stop the contractions. He was right and I could never thank him enough for that decision.

By 9 PM the medication was not stopping my contractions and the ultrasound was now showing the baby's head coming down, it was only time before my water broke. I already knew their attempts weren't going to work so I was prepared (as well as I could be) for the next step. They stopped that medication and gave me another to induce labor and told me I would probably deliver in a few hours. I had now been in labor for almost 22 hours. My doctor left the hospital to go home and shower and then he'd come right back.

9:24 PM I felt pressure and called the nurse.
9:25 PM My water broke. The Nurse came in, verified it had broke and said she'd call the doctor and be right back.
9:28 PM I called the nurse again, I felt really strong pressure I knew the baby was coming. I tried to stay as still as possible because I knew if I moved a muscle he would come out. In those split seconds Jory and I wondered "Why in the hell the nurse would not stay in the room?" Did she not believe us?
9:29 PM I had Jory call the nurse again, we told her the baby was seriously on his way, like NOW!
9:30 PM With only Jory and I in the room, our baby was born. I felt the baby kicking my leg.
The nurse came back in the room and was shocked to see the baby was out, she ran out and grabbed another nurse who came in and took charge.
(In a later conversation Jory told me the nurse who never stayed in the room acted like she was new and totally freaked out because when she went and got another nurse who came in and took charge, she pulled off her badge and put in on the desk next to me and stood by the door for most of the time, then left.)

Jory cut the cord and watched as they examined the baby and asked if we knew the sex, we didn't. She announced we'd had a baby boy. She wrapped him in a blanket and handed him to me. I immediately fell into tears and didn't stop bawling for at least an hour. I held him and cried. Every time I touched his skin he would make a fist. His eyes were still fused shut but he opened his mouth and smiled (even though we know babies don't smile that early). Jory said he looked just like my older brother Shane, I thought he had Jory's lips. He was perfect in every way. Perfect fingers and perfect toes.

We named him Jack Kendrick Johnson. Jack from Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean” and my maiden name is Kendrick. He was 9.5 inches long and weighed 9.5 ounces.

My parents arrived about 10:30 PM. After about an hour, I sort of kicked them out so Jory and I could spend some private time with our son. We continued to hold Jack and talk to him. We tried to stop crying and enjoy this time we had with him, knowing it wasn't going to be much longer. The nurses continued to come in and check for a pulse, each time surprising us how strong our little boy was. Some time between 12:30 and 1:00 AM on September 1, 2006 Jack passed away in our arms.

The awesome nurses at the hospital let us bathe Jack and brought in some outfits to choose from to dress him in and the most perfect tiny crocheted blanket to wrap him in. She took his foot prints and hand prints for us and later made a plaster cast of both his foot and hand prints. Later she would also take him to get some pictures done that we'll receive 3 weeks after we leave the hospital. We had taken a few pictures of Jack before we bathed him. Although I have yet to look at them, I already wish I had taken more!

We continued to hold Jack until around 2:30 AM, I was so exhausted and couldn't keep my eyes open another second. The nurse came and took Jack to take some photos and create the plaster cast for us. She would bring him back later to sleep in our room with us. I passed out and slept until 6:00 AM when the nurse came in to say she was going off shift. We could never thank her enough for all the mementos she created for us and the memories she helped us create!

The entire next afternoon we took turns holding Jack, I even napped with him next to me on my bed. The nurses continued to tell me that Jack would stay with us until we were ready, but Every time a nurse came in I was scared they were going to say it was time. I couldn't get enough time with Jack, I wasn't ever going to be ready to say goodbye. I expected to be released from the hospital that night so I was on pins and needles knowing I would have to say goodbye soon.

My parents came by and both took time holding Jack. This was the first grandchild in both our families so I know this was hard on them too.

Another nurse came in later and told us that I would be staying another night to make sure there was no infection and because my right thigh was still fully numb from the epidural. They would be moving me up to the maternity ward, but would put me in the area with the neonatal mothers so I wouldn't have to hear all the babies cry. She told us to let her know when we were ready for them to take Jack with the understanding that we can request to seem him once we are in our new room. Or if either of us did not want to say goodbye twice, the other could go into another room and spend as much time with him as needed. We both held him one more time, hugged him, kissed him and said our goodbyes, not really knowing if that would be our last time. But once the nurse came in and took him, we both lost it and bawled together. It made it so real for me, it was as if he had died again. I knew there was no way I could go through that again so I told Jory that was my goodbye, he agreed.

They moved me up to the Maternity ward and put me in my own room in the corner. I was so thankful to not have to hear or see any babies, but felt so empty knowing mine was gone. This was not supposed to happen to us. We had already been through so much for so long just to get pregnant. This was our miracle baby, what happened? I felt like the life had been ripped out of me. I was only a shell, trying to keep it together for Jory. I felt so close to really losing it, but promised Jory I would hold on for his sake.

Later that night my doctor came by and asked if I wanted to go home. He said the results came back, there was no infection, it was definitely incompetent cervix which can be helped next time we get pregnant with a cerclage at 14 to 16 weeks and extra monitoring. Unfortunately there is no way to know you have an incompetent cervix until you go into preterm labor the first time. He said there was nothing I could have done to prevent this or to stop the contractions from coming. There is absolutely no way I could have known until it was too late. I tried to believe him.

The feeling in my thigh had returned so we agreed to go home. As they wheeled me out of the hospital, what feeling I had left in my heart ached for Jack. We should be taking him with us, instead my arms are empty and we both cried the entire way home.

I don’t think either of us have cried so much in our lives. It was so hard to be home, especially with my parents staying with us. I could never thank them enough for coming because of everything they did for us, but I just wanted to be alone with Jory. Thankfully they were here to help keep us on track of those things we needed to handle like calling the different funeral homes and my work. They left Monday, Labor day to go home.

One thing I expected to be an issue was that fact that we have different beliefs from my parents and Jory’s dad. They are all Mormon, not necessarily practicing but have the belief that we should all be buried in a cemetery to later one day reclaim our body. Jory and I are not Mormon and do not wish to be buried. We want to be cremated and have set plans for our ashes. So why would we want to do something different with our child? Our parents both took their turns letting us know they had family plots we could have in either Logan or Provo, UT. We appreciated their offers, however politely declined. I really appreciate them all for not pushing us or questioning our choices. This was definitely not the time or place to have that conversation. In fact I was extremely surprised and happy with the fact that my parents took an active role in trying to helps us pick out an urn. The funeral home also had remembrance pendants and I fell in love with a silver pewter covered glass vile with screw-on top that could hang on a necklace or in a display case and hold some of Jack’s ashes. Because of the price I knew I couldn’t get it with all the other costs we were incurring. My mother offered to buy it for me, I knew I would later regret saying no even though I would never normally agree to let her buy me something that expensive, so I agreed. And I look forward to having that piece of Jack with me always.

The days following my parents exit have been mashed together into one large blur. I wasn’t lucky enough to skip my breast milk from coming in though. I was actually surprised when it first happened, in total disbelief actually. I thought I would be spared this additional reminder of losing Jack, but no.

Jory had mentioned that my brother Shane offered us an escape at his house in Wyoming if we were interested. This was exactly what we needed and were looking forward to getting the hell out of dodge. We wanted to wait for Jack’s ashes and for our apartment complex to fix our A/C, it started leaking the night we got home from the hospital. We’ve also been waiting to be cleared by my doctor for travel which happened today.

I knew going back to the doctor’s office was going to be really hard. I had bonded with all the ladies there during my daily visit for my progesterone shots. They had become like family to me. Let alone the possibility of sitting in the waiting area with pregnant women or children. My doctor had told us how upset all the ladies were when they heard the news of our loss. They had all shed tears and were heartbroken for us.

When we arrived, I was surprised to see an empty waiting room. I have no idea if this was luck or if they had scheduled it this way. Either way I was very thankful. The nurse took my vitals and I was a shocked to see I had lost 14 pounds. I knew I had lost weight, I could tell by the way my pants fit. My doctor examined me and found my uterus was still at 8 weeks, but he was not worried.

After my exam, the doctor told us all the test results were back and that I definitely, with no question had an incompetent cervix. He said that there was absolutely nothing I could have done to prevent this. He said that you don’t start contracting until well after the cervix starts to dilate so even if I had called the night before or right when the contractions started, it wouldn’t have made a difference. I know this was technically the second time he had told me this, but this time it finally freed my guilt I had been holding since losing Jack. Even though everyone was telling me it wasn’t my fault and that I couldn’t have prevented it, there was always still that question in me. I’m not sure I’ll ever feel guilt free, but this was definitely a freeing feeling and I will try to hold on to that.

My doctor said there was no doubt in his mind when we are ready that a cerclage with extra monitoring will work for us. He also thanked us for allowing him to be a part of "the beautiful experience" it was for him. He said he had never experienced the kind of love Jory and I showed, as well as the love we have for each other. He continued to tell us that he’s never met a couple as close and loving as we are and was honored to share in that with us. He said he’s never seen anyone with the glow I had every time I came into his office, even the nurses had mentioned it. He also shared with us that he’s still having a really hard time accepting that there was nothing he could have done to prevent this. He was just so sorry but wanted us to know there is promise for another miracle.

We told him of our travel plans and he agreed that it was a great idea to get away. We scheduled my next appointment in 8 weeks, I should be mid cycle by then. As we started to walk out into the waiting room, I realized it was full of pregnant women and children and started to tear up, by the time we got out to the parking lot, I fully lost it and collapsed against my car. Jory grabbed me and held me tight while I cried. I then realized everyone in the waiting room could see me through the glass front door and windows. I told Jory I wanted to leave so he helped me in the car and we left.

I’ve been approved for 6 weeks short term disability which thankfully I have that, but it is no where near enough time and I don’t know how I’ll ever feel able to go back. I pray that Jory gets the job with the video game company and they offer him loads of money and excellent heath coverage so I might be able to quit my job and never go back.

I haven’t even been able to talk to my friends on the phone yet. I’ve barely managed to talk to my mother, two of my brothers and my father. Talking business or bills to strangers is easier than someone I know. From reading the book the hospital gave us on losing a child, I know it will help to talk to others, but I can’t manage a 5 minute simple conversation with family without crying. How am I supposed to talk with anyone other than Jory about Jack without bawling?

The only thing going for us here in Arizona is that we don’t know many people and don’t see anyone except at my work. I have no idea how it will be to see our family in person on our way to our escape. I can’t manage to ride in the car and see a group of little scouts outside the local market without crying. Or watch TV without constantly flipping the channel every time I see a pregnant woman, baby or a character named Jack. Even a simple episode of Friends comes across cruel when it’s the one where Chandler and Monica get their twins and name the boy Jack. This is exactly why our trip to the secluded woods of Wyoming sound so enticing.

How will I ever not resent my two cousins whose babies will be born shortly after Jack was supposed to be born in January? How will I keep from punching the next person who tells me Jack wasn’t meant to live a full life here on Earth or that it just wasn’t meant to be? Or how about those that keeping telling me we will be with him again one day? How about today? Why not now?

I don’t know how I’ll ever wake up in the morning and not want to cry. I can’t imagine a night where I’ll go to bed and not replay the entire event over and over in my head until I finally decide to take another sleeping pill just to get some sleep. How will I ever feel strong enough to be away from Jory for more than 15 minutes at a time? How will my heart ever recover from losing my perfect precious boy? How will I ever move on?

I’m scared to face the upcoming holidays, Thanksgiving, my 30th birthday, Christmas, his edd of January 22nd. Not to mention what would have been his first holidays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, his birthday and the anniversary of his death. I can’t even think about it right now.

The only reasons I get out of bed every day are Jory and my desperate wish to bring home a baby and give them the world. I miss being pregnant and can only wish we have time for another miracle.

I miss you Jack, I miss you every minute of every day and always will!
I love you forever, Mommy

A Poem From A Stranger, A Friend

OUR JANUARY MOM
I read your story with sadness
and wondered, "OH GOD, WHY?"
To take a little one so precious
to make his mom and dad cry.
Why was Jack taken from you
at only a few hours old,
To me that just doesn't seem right
and maybe just down right cold.
Most of us have never met you,
most never will.
But our January mom--
-- you will be to us still.

The Do's and Don'ts of Grief Support

Do's

Do ask, "How are you REALLY doing?"
Do remember that you can't take away their pain, but you can share it and help them feel less alone.
Do let your genuine concern and care show.
Do call the child by name.
Do treat the couple equally. Fathers need as much support as mothers.
Do be available...to listen, to run errands, to drive or whatever else seems needed at the time.
Do say you are sorry about what happened to their child and about their pain.
Do accept their moods whatever they may be, you are not there to judge. Be sensitive to shifting moods.
Do allow them to talk about the child that has died as much and as often as they want.
Do talk about the special, endearing qualities of the child.
Do reassure the parents that they did everything they could, that the care the child received was the best possible.
Do put on your calendar the birth and death date of the child and remember the family the following year(s). That you remember the child is very supportive.
Do extend invitations to them. But understand if they decline or change their minds at the last minute. Above all continue to call and visit.
Do send a personal note or letter or make a contribution to a charity that is meaningful to the family.
Do get literature about the disease and grief process to help you understand.

Don'ts

Don't be afraid to ask about the deceased child and to share memories.
Don't think that the age of the child determines its value and impact.
Don't be afraid to touch, it can often be more comforting than words.
Don't avoid them because you feel helpless or uncomfortable, or don't know what to say.
Don't change the subject when they mention their child.
Don't push the parents through the grieving process, it takes a long time to heal and they never forget.
Don't encourage the use of drugs or alcohol.
Don't ask them how they feel if you aren't willing to listen.
Don't say you know how they feel.
Don't tell them what they should feel or do.
Don't try to find something positive in the child's death.
Don't say that they can always have another child.
Don't suggest that they should be grateful for their other children.
Don't think that death puts a ban on laughter. There is much enjoyment in the memory of the time they had together.
Don't call it a miscarriage if the baby was born alive and later passed away.
Avoid the following cliches:
"Be brave, don't cry."
"It was God's will" or "it was a blessing."
"Get on with your life. This isn't the end of the world."
"God needed another flower in his garden."
"At least it wasn't older."
"You must be strong for the other children."
"You're doing so well."
"You're young, you'll get over it."
"Time will heal."

A Little Help For Our Friends and for Us

Bereaved Parents Wish List
Compiled by Diane Collins, TCF, Bay Area

1. I wish my baby hadn't died. I wish I had him back.
2. I wish you wouldn't be afraid to speak my baby's name. My baby lived and was very important to me. I need to hear that he was important to you also.
3. If I cry and get emotional when you talk about my baby, I wish you knew it isn't because you have hurt me. My baby's death is the cause of my tears. You have talked about my baby, and you have allowed me to share my grief. I thank you for both.
4. Being a bereaved parent is not contagious, so I wish you wouldn't shy away from me. I need you now more than ever.
5. I need diversions, so I do want to hear about you; but I also want you to hear about me. I might be sad and I might cry, but I wish you would let me talk about my baby, my favorite topic of the day.
6. I know you think of and pray for me often. I also know that my baby's death pains you too. I wish you would let me know those things through a phone call, a card or note, or a real big hug. 7. I wish you wouldn't expect my grief to be over in six months. These first months are traumatic for me, but I wish you could understand that my grief will never be over. I will suffer the death of my baby until the day I die.
8. I am working very hard on my recovery, but I wish you could understand that I will never fully recover. I will always miss my baby, and I will always grieve that he is dead.
9. I wish you wouldn't expect me "not to think about it" or to "be happy." Neither will happen for a very long time, so don't frustrate yourself.
10. I don't want to have a "pity party," but I do wish you would let me grieve. I must hurt before I can heal.
11. I wish you understood how my life has shattered. I know it is miserable for you to be around me when I am feeling miserable. Please be as patient with me as I am with you.
12. When I say, "I'm doing okay, " I wish you could understand that I don't "feel" okay and that I struggle daily.
13. I wish you knew that all of the grief reactions I'm having are very normal. Depression, anger, frustration, hopelessness, and overwhelming sadness are all to be expected. So, please excuse me when I'm quiet and withdrawn or irritable and cranky.
14. Your advise to "take one day at a time" is excellent advice. However, a day is too much and too fast for me right now. I wish you could understand that I'm doing good to handle an hour at a time.
15. Please excuse me if I seem rude, certainly it is not my intent. Sometimes the world around me goes too fast and I need to get off. When I walk away, I wish you would let me find a quiet place to spend time alone.
16. I wish you understood that grief changes people. When my baby died, a big part of me died with him. I am not the same person I was before my baby died, and will never be that person again.
17. I wish very much that you could understand-understand my loss and my grief, my silence and my tears, my void and my pain. BUT, I pray that you will never understand.

Jack Kendrick Johnson

Family and Friends,

As we have shared with many of you, we were expecting to learn the sex of our miracle baby this weekend. Unexpectedly, Wednesday night Joey went into preterm labor. After the doctors tried to stop the delivery unsuccessfully, Joey gave birth to a beautiful baby boy that we named Jack Kendrick Johnson at 9:30 PM on August 31, 2006, he weighed 9.5 ounces and was 9.5 inches long. Unfortunately Jack's time with us was cut short by the fact that he was born so early, he passed away in the early hours of September 1, 2006. We only had hours to spend with Jack, we are grateful for that time, and like any parents who have lost a child, only wish that we had more. Joey was released from the hospital the night of September 1st and is physically recovering well.

As you can imagine, we are devastated and heartbroken. We appreciate all of the support that we have received, and we would love nothing more than to express our gratitude for your friendship and encouragement throughout this pregnancy. Right now, it is simply too hard for us to talk with any one. We have been limiting our direct communication with immediate family. We will be in touch personally as soon as humanly possible and only ask for patience while we are allowed time to grieve. We understand that many of you may have questions and want to call or email, please do not be offended when we do not respond. We are going to be taking some time away, please refrain from mailing anything to our home address at this time. We will be in contact as soon as we are ready.

We would like to thank you all again for your love and support,

Jory & Joey

We have Movement!

19 Weeks 1 Day - Movement

I've been reading lately on my pregnangy.org message board that at this stage I should be feeling movement and most of the ladies that haven't felt anything have actually seen movement or felt it by putting their hands on their belly. So for the last few nights while watching TV, I sit with my hands on my belly hoping to feel something. Last night it happened! It was so weird, little Freddy moved. The best way I can describe it is if you make a fist with your right hand and cover it with your left hand and then move your right hand slowly.

That moment was just as I expected it would be; exciting, thrilling and creepy. I'm sure everyone can imagine what it would feel like if bugs were crawling under their skin. Now put that bug in your belly and multiply it's size by 50! Crazy eh?

I can't wait to feel her move on the inside but also know that means there will be times when Freddy will keep me up with her calisthenics. Hopefully she won't be stubborn like her father when I suggest that it's bedtime.

Cell Phone Sunset

We had the craziest orange sunset last Thursday. Took these two photos with my cell phone camera, not the best but better than nothing!

Call To Action

I've seen this a few times and figured I better post it before I forget.

From Impeachnet.net: Starting at noon on September 1 2006, major websites and blogs all across the Internet will replace their front pages with the single word “Impeach” in simple white text on a black background. For 24 hours, web surfers and blog readers will see that word first when they visit their favorite sites. In this way, we hope to get the public talking about the one tool guaranteed by the Founders to restore our Constitutional Democracy.

Everything you need to join is here.

This is what your front page will look like on Sept. 1st.

It's A...............

Mystery!

I'm not that disappointed because I convinced myself that we weren't going to find out today. We didn't even get an ultrasound! We did get to listen to the heartbeat which is totally kool. The heart rate was somewhere between the 150's and 160's from his manual count and I've gained 2 lbs. However I've been off my Glucophage for almost 3 weeks now, so I'm surprised I didn't gain more from the look of my stomach. Hopefully I will get my prescription in the mail very soon so I can get back to loosing pounds.

We only have to wait 2 weeks for our next Ultrasound. We have to go somewhere else to get it done but it will be a 3D or 4D U/S! WAHOO! I was actually going to start looking for somewhere that offered 4D U/S's because I thought it would be really kool to have one. Now we have one "prescribed" and we'll get to see our baby's privates in 3D or 4D!

Pregnancy Dreams

I had the craziest dream this morning!
I woke up and my belly was huge and the baby was moving! Not only could I feel the baby move, but I could see it move! I was so excited I woke Jory immediately to share in this delight. Had it not been a dream I would have totally freaked out. It wasn't just that I could see it move, my skin was so thin the baby was able to reached out and grab my fingers! This was very similar to the scene in "A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child" where Freddy is reborn and you can see him pushing out of her stomach?
The weird factor was starting to get to me so I pulled my fingers away. I was then walking out our bedroom door worrying because I hadn't yet bought any maternity shirts and wasn't sure what I was going to wear to work. Then I woke up.

16 Weeks aka 4 Months!

I mentioned to Jory the other day how fast this pregnancy is going by. I can't believe I'm 4 months already! It seems like yesterday I was 7 weeks.

I'm feeling almost like I'm not pregnant anymore, except for the ever growing midsection. I'm still in my regular clothes, which is a good thing because I don't have the money yet to afford maternity clothes. I still have 3 holes left in my belt, although I'm not sure my pants will make it that long. I'm sure I would be more comfortable in pants with no belts but unless my work starts to allow pajama pants Monday thru Friday, I'm screwed.

I'm not a skirt girl, unless it's a hippie skirt which I haven't worn for 10 years, but skirts are definitely starting to look oh so comfortable! Of course my style of shirts (any band T-Shirts) I would wear with my hippie skirts are not acceptable at work either. Maybe plain colored V-neck shirts? That might work.

You know, I think the USofA needs to change their views and laws on maternity. Once you get pregnant, you should be able to stay at home, even if that means working from home. That way you can wear whatever is comfortable. OR allow us to wear whatever the hell we want in the office, even if we have to wear an "I'm Pregnant" sign around our neck or sticker on our forehead. Although that sticker will probably fall off with all the sweating we do.

Speaking of sweating, where is the book that tells you all the changes your body will go through when pregnant? Why do all the books I'm reading leave all the crazy shit out? I was prepared and willing to go through anything before I got pregnant and am still a willing participant, I'm just thinking about all those other ladies out there. They should know all this crazy shit that happens and not wake up in shock when your nipples are twice the size they used to be. Okay maybe not twice the size, but serious gerth growth! We all know that your boobs grow bigger, your belly obviously grows and you should expect a road map of stretch marks unless you're a celebrity and have secret access to stretch mark removal cream and body bounce back spray. Have you seen Kate Hudson in a bikini after she lost her 60lb pregnancy weight? Seriously!

They should tell us that your belly button will go through several shape changes before it pops out when the turkey is done. Or how about the amount of sweat you will produce sitting in front of a fan in an A/C controlled office. How about how your hair grows in weird spurts, the color changes, if it was straight before it's curly now and if it was curly, now it's curly in a different way. What about the fact that sitting becomes truly uncomfortable even in your second month?
And you think you know what to expect when they say you will be tired all the time. It isn't about being tired all the time, it's falling asleep at the most random moments! You constantly feel like your fighting the effect of a bottle of sleeping pills. I'm not even mentioning the different types of constipation, pimples, fever blisters and ingrown hairs. I also assumed the swollen feet, ankles and legs didn't happen until your last month or two, nope it started for me the first month! And don't tell me that's an Arizona heat thing because it was worse in Utah!

I'm not saying I've experienced all of these, because I haven't. But I've been told about most of them by ladies in an online pregnancy group I'm a part of. I haven't even mentioned half of what I've read because it could go on forever and I'm already bored with this post. So my point is, someone needs to write a book, a manual if you will for first time mothers.

I'm honestly enjoying every second of this journey. If only people could stop asking those stupid questions. "Are you sure this is what you want?" It's a little late to be asking that, don't you think Asshat? "Are you sure you thought this through?" Oh wait...what have I been doing for the last 5 years of my life? Going to bi-weekly Dr. appointments constantly being poked and prodded and taking 18 pills a day for fun? Oh right...because we've been trying to get pregnant before I have to have my ovaries removed so I don't die of Cancer you Fuckface! Or worse, they reference their shitty behaved kids and ask, "Are you sure you're ready for this?" It makes me want to scream, If you had raised your kids right Fucktard, they wouldn't be eating dog shit off the ground and running around wiping the remains on your fancy furnature!

So people, if there is anything you remember here today, please Pretty Please, STOP asking those FUCKING questions! I'm not a 17 year old high school student who had sex with my boyfriend so he wouldn't dump me and didn't use a condom because That is So Uncool!

Did I mention the emotional changes you will go through while pregnant?

P.S. My next appointment is Aug. 17th, hopefully we will find out the sex of Baby J v2.0!

We're Baaaack!

We made it home safely. Pictures and a real post coming soon!

Something I have to mention now about our trip to Utahrd was how much HOTTER it was than Phoenix the entire time we were there! Last Thursday it was 94° in PHX and 105° in SLC! I won't start about the humidity quite yet.

By the way...it was a beautiful 94° today in Phoenix!

And our forecast for the rest of the week...

Tue 94°F/78°F
Wed 98°F/79°F
Thur 99°F/81°F
Fri 96°F /77°F

I'm can't tell you how many times I was asked, "How are you enjoying the 120° weather in Arizona?" Which I always responded with, I don't know, I've never experienced 120°F anywhere! In fact, did you know it's cooler in PHX right now than it is here in UT?
BAM!
Take that Bitches!

13 Weeks 4 days "High and to the right, like a Republican."

My appointment was pretty F'n Kool! The doc tried to hear the heart beat with the Doppler but couldn't find it. I wanted to tell him the baby is sitting really high up but I don't like telling DOCTORS what to do. AND I really wanted an ultrasound so I kept my mouth shut.

So I had my first belly U/S and we could see the baby very clearly, well more clearly than in the past and see her heart beat and see her move. We have seen the baby move in the past but it was moving around so fast it doesn't really seem real...if you know what I mean. This time we got to see the baby move her head kinda like she was looking at us, telling us to back the fuck off and stop disturbing her. (I'm using HER/SHE until we know the sex, it's just easier that way.) No picture again. I don't know why, does the paper cost like $50 a pop or something? Doesn't make sense to me.

Oh and guess where the baby was? That's right...up high and to the right! Doc said "High and to the right, like a Republican." LOL! Even more comforting to know he's not a ReThug.

Anyway so since he found her on U/S, he pulled the Doppler back out and tried to find the heart beat. After a few silent moments, there it was, so strong, so quiet, so cute. Such a kool moment, I won't ever forget it!

Four weeks until my next appointment, August 17th.

13 Weeks and a Bunch of Babble

Still feeling fairly good. Actually I feel fabulous other than the constant exhaustion and need for a nap. I've thought very seriously about bringing a lunch to work and napping during my lunch hour and eating afterward at my desk. It's not like I'm busy working. I just really enjoy going home for lunch and seeing Jory because that won't continue to happen once he finds a job.

I do seriously appreciate not ever having morning sickness. Every morning I wake up, feeling tired, but at least I'm not barfing! It could be worse, much much worse.

This morning I woke up 2 hours early with really bad heartburn, which normally replaces morning sickness in the 2nd trimester. I moved to the couch and tried to get comfy enough to fall asleep but that didn't happen. I ate some cereal and decided to watch some TV. At some point I fell asleep and snoozed until 1:30 PM, the time I should be leaving for work. OOPS!

I have two doctor appointments this week. Yes TWO, doesn't make since I know. My 14 week appointment had to be moved to this Thursday since I'll be in Utahrd next Monday. I think we'll be trying to listen for the heartbeat, if we don't hear anything with the doppler, then they'll have to do another ultrasound, WAHOO! I don't know why doctors are so anti-u/s? The machine is right there, takes 2 seconds to add my name, what's the friggin' deal?

Anyway, the other appointment is Wednesday (tomorrow). Two appointments ago I had asked him about my Hypothyroidism and the fact that he had yet to prescribe me my medicine. First off, he needed to get me my medicine NOW DAMNIT so I can have any sort of metabolism and have any luck at loosing this extra baggage I've been carrying since I was last on my medicine let alone the extra baggage from before I was even diagnosed back in 2001. Secondly, I had read in "What to expect when you are expecting" that if you have a thyroid disorder you should be extra sure to be on your medication because your baby needs those hormones or it could also end up with the disorder. And that it was just really really bad.

Dr. Seal says "What to expect..." is full of shit and we can have my blood tested again, he thought my previous results were fine. (Whatever! You don't just go from having Hypothyroidism to not having it at all. This weight is not just caused by my EXTREME case of Insulin Resistance. HELLO!) So my test results came back last Friday, thyroid levels are extremely low. (DUH!) But I don't have AIDS or Chlamydia YAH! & DUH!

He wanted me to get into the office asap which ended up being Wednesday. Why can't I just wait one more day and add that to my list of stuff to do on Thursday? Let me tell you...Thursday's appointment is free, it's covered by my insurance so I'm assuming he wants to squeeze a $30 co-pay out of me where he can.

I'm not sure if I'll get around to posting again before we leave Friday morning but I'm sure we'll be taking the laptop and camera (can't forget the camera!) so we might post updates as far as where we will be and what we'll be doing. That was a really long sentence. Oh well. I'm tired.

Actually I'll try to remember and post about my Thursday appointment, hopefully this time we'll get the little one to hold still for a picture, if we're lucky enough to get an u/s. If Baby Johnson doesn't we'll know Baby J is definitely Jory version 2.0 because it apparently doesn't like press just like dad.

Speaking of the Little One, Baby Johnson, Baby J, it, s/he...we seriously need a nickname of sorts until we know whether it's a boy or a girl. It's hard to post about IT while avoiding the he's and she's, her's/his. Feel free to give us ideas.

I'm going to stop rambling now. Sometimes I feel like I've lost my brain. Sorry about all the babble. Seriously I'm stopping now.

My missing posts from May 28th-July 10th

Being a blogger and a previous journal-er, I couldn't go through the last two months without blogging about this new adventure! I've secretly blogged about everything here. But have posted it all below for your reading pleasure.

The day we found out

Sunday May 28, 2006
Before work today I took my car to Walmart for an oil change, they’re super cheap and super fast! While I was there I figured I may as well go ahead and buy a pregnancy test because my boobs have been sore for over a week. I’m 11 days late, but that really isn’t abnormal for me. The first time I went on Glucophage in 2001, I became regular like clockwork, but this time around with Metformin, I’ve been a week or two late each cycle. My boobs’ being sore wasn’t an obvious sign either. My boobs were really sore in April but only for 2 days right before my period. I had almost purchased a pregnancy test the previous Thursday, but I’ve done that so often and been so disappointed when they all came back negative.

(Possible TMI ahead!)
Friday came and my Dr’s appointment was cancelled due to a family emergency. Friday night my hopes were smashed when I started bleeding. Saturday morning I woke up depressed, went to the bathroom and no blood? Weird. I went all day Saturday randomly checking, no blood. This morning I woke up, no blood but boobs are still sore. Maybe there is a chance!
(TMI over)
Walmart took longer than usual with my car so I had to rush to work. I sort of forgot about the test most of the afternoon, but had read through the directions at least 3 times.

While driving home for lunch, I decided I was going to take the test. I remembered the directions said if you take the test up to 4 days before your period is supposed to start you need to take it in the morning when you first wake up. But if you’re late, you can take it anytime during day.

I got home and told Jory I was going to take the test, I had to pee anyway. As soon as I was done, I opened the door so Jory could come in and we followed the directions, sat the test down and planned to wait the 3 minutes. Jory picked up the instructions to verify I followed them correctly, he seriously has OCD! ;)

As we started looking at the instructions, Jory looked down then up and smiled at me. I immediately looked at the test and it said PREGNANT, it had only been seconds!

We both beamed at each other, but didn’t want to celebrate too early, so we agreed to wait the full 3 minutes JUST TO MAKE SURE before we got excited. We were both grinning ear to ear, pacing around, thinking this was too good to be true! This was the first real try with Clomid after my surgery. There is no way it could have been this easy!

After we concluded that 3 minutes had passed, we hugged and kissed and agreed to try and stay calm. You’re not supposed to celebrate until after the doctor confirms it, especially with my medical phenomenons. It was so hard coming back to work, I’m too excited, I can hardly stand sitting here! I have to tell someone!

I just called my mom, she’s super excited but has to keep it quiet until after my Dr.’s appointment. Unfortunately I sort of ruined this whole thing for my mom. I had called her a week ago and asked her what her early signs were. I checked in with her every other day or so and made her promise she wouldn’t tell a soul not even my dad. So now this is going to be even harder for her because she knows it’s real now. I’m actually really surprised she hasn't told anyone yet, she has a hard time keeping secrets. ;)

We’ve been trying to quit smoking seriously for the last 5 months and I knew it may take getting pregnant to finally quit. As horrible as it may be I plan on starting fresh tomorrow morning. I hope this part is going to be as easy as I’ve thought it would be. I’m going to stay positive!

“Yes mom, still pregnant.”

Monday May 29, 2006
Took another test this morning, I woke Jory to tell him I’m still PREGNANT! It’s Memorial Day, so I can’t call the doctor yet to make my appointment. Mom called today, I had told her I was planning on taking another test today. “Yes mom, still pregnant.” This is going to be really hard for her. At least Jory and I can talk to each other about it, she has no one. She says she’s trying not to think about…that’s not working for me! I’ve already started an online baby registery, I have to keep myself busy somehow. In case someone happens to find it, I know it’s unlikely but just in case, I made the due date November 1st. The birthmom is due in November, so everyone will just assume it's for the adoption.

My boobs are still sore, no morning sickness though.

Not smoking is easy so far, but I know it’s not going to be this easy for long!

I’m having a really hard time not telling the world I’m pregnant! I really hope I can get in to my doctors on Tuesday! I know that by taking 2 tests, it’s pretty much a FOR SURE thing, but I don’t want to let myself get too excited before the doctor says I’m OK. I’m just so surprised it worked the first time! What a miracle. I don’t know how I’ll deal if I miscarry. Please don’t let me miscarry!

She said she’d squeeze me in at 10:30 AM tomorrow!

Tuesday May 30, 2006
This morning I called and left a voicemail requesting an appointment ASAP. Got a call back while I was at work, the receptionist was really excited for me and offered an appointment on Friday. I begged for anything soon, she said she’d squeeze me in at 10:30 AM tomorrow! I’m so excited, I seriously can’t wait. I can’t wait to get my first ultrasound and hear the baby’s heartbeat! That’s not going to happen for awhile.

Signed up on Pregnancy.org, according to the calendar I’m 5 weeks along and due January 26, 2007! How kool is that? We’ll see how accurate that is compared to what the doctor says. I’ve read that they can tell how far along you are better by measuring the length of the baby. I can’t stop surfing baby sites! It’s helping make the day go by faster here at work.

All these “I wonder” questions are filling my brain! Is it a boy? Is it a girl? Do I care? I just want a baby! It would be nice to have a boy first, for the Big Brother factor. But I’ve always dreamed that I was going to have a girl. I don’t think there is much chance in our family of having a girl. I have all brothers and J only has brothers. I’m just happy to finally be pregnant. I’m going to love every minute of this adventure. I don’t mean to sound so cliché but that’s how I look at this. I don’t care about how this is going to change my body or if I get morning sickness. I can’t wait for our baby to come into this world and change our lives completely! I can’t wait to look into our baby’s eyes and share the world with him or her. I’m going to cry if I don’t stop now and crying at work is very embarrassing. I can’t wait until tomorrow!

First Appointment...1st Ultrasound at 6 weeks 3 days!

Wednesday May 31, 2006
Jory and I went to my appointment today, we had to wait FOREVER! I drank 32 oz of water an hour before, so I’d be able to pee in the cup. I was having a hard time not peeing my pants! They finally called me back, peed in the cup and back to waiting. After another 30 minutes of waiting, they called us back and the nurse told me we were going to do an ultrasound. No way! Just then my doctor came in and told the nurse we weren’t doing an u/s. No way? She told him I’m far enough along, she did the math, the first day of my last cycle was April XXth so I’m 6 weeks and 3 days along. “Oh, well if that’s the case, let’s do it!”

I’ve had so many ultrasounds I wasn’t really expecting to see anything really. I also remembered that episode of Friends where Rachel and Ross were getting her u/s and she pretended to see it but really didn’t see anything. I wasn’t prepared to pretend, I wanted to really see something.

Baby Bean is Due January 22, 2007!

There it was, plain as day! It looks like a black oval with something super tiny at the bottom. That tiny something is our baby! My doctor measured it and said it’s coming along like a boy. But it’s way too early to tell for sure. A boy? A Boy! OMG we could be having a boy! We really need to find some boy names. We have a list of girl names, those are easy. Boy names are hard.

They congratulated us again and then came the scary news. He was really happy we got in to see him when we did because my body isn’t producing enough hormones to keep the pregnancy. He tells me I need to get my blood tested today and I’ll probably have to get a Progesterone shot ever day so I don’t miscarry. Fear fills my veins. Miscarry? I knew I had a higher chance than most of having a miscarriage but that’s not what I wanted to hear at my first appointment. I try to relax and not stress because that can’t be good for the baby.

We leave the doctor’s office and celebrate when we get in the car. We’re pregnant! WAHOO! Now we can tell our immediate families and some of my close girl friends.

I dropped Jory off and headed over to Sonora, the same place that took 14 vials of my blood a few months back. What’s funny is they recognized me! It only takes like 15 minutes total and I’m on my way home.

On my way to work, I call my mom and confirm that we really are pregnant. She can’t celebrate because she’s in the car with my dad and they’re on their way to California for his birthday. The night before, we agreed to wait until his birthday to tell him because my mom wasn’t going to be able to keep it quiet until Father’s Day. But I could tell she was going crazy so I told her to call me back when they are stopped somewhere and I will tell him.

Not 20 minutes later, my dad calls my cell phone but I’m on a call at work and can’t answer. I hurry and finish my call, walk outside and call him. I asked him if he wanted his birthday gift early. He asked me how I was going to do that since he was on his way to California. I told him I would tell him what the gift was. He said he didn’t want to ruin it, he could wait. I told him he really wanted his birthday gift early. After having to convince him for a bit, he said OK. I asked him if he was sure. He said No No, he could wait. Enough of this, so I told him he did and I said, “You’re going to be a grandpa”. I think he was in shock, so I said, “I’m pregnant!” He said it was the best birthday present ever.

I also called my bestfriend Juli, asked her if she wanted her birthday present early. She told me I couldn’t get her one because I bought her plane ticket when she came out in March. I convinced her it was ok and told her she was going to be an aunt. She was just as shocked and excited as I expected! Jory and I have decided to wait until Friday to call the rest of our families so we can do it together.

Daily Progesterone Shots...fun

Thursday June 1, 2006 Got a call from the doctor’s, my progesterone level is 9 and the low should be 25. Not good! I’ll have to go in to the doctor’s office every day and get a Progesterone shot. On weekends, I have to take two pills in the morning and two at night. I will also have to go back to Sonora and get my blood drawn once a week to test my levels. Monday will be my next blood test day, perfect. I work late Sunday nights 4 PM to 1 AM. So I’m going to get home late Sunday and have to get up EARLY Monday for a blood test and my shot, nice. The things I’m willing to do to be a mommy. I can’t wait to be a mommy!

Can’t wait for Friday, it’s so hard not to call everyone! I want to scream it from the mountain tops!

I do have a new symptom. I’m hungry all the time! The only good thing about this is I’m starving for salads, for good food, lots and lots of healthy food. I don’t even want to think about fast food. I’m currently addicted to Roman Salads at Quiznos, so delicious!

My First Shot

Friday June 2, 2006
I went to the doctor’s office today expecting to wait an hour for my first shot. The lady sitting to my left was complaining to someone on the phone that she had been waiting over an hour. I almost felt bad when they called me in after only 15 minutes.

The nurse, my favorite nurse took me back and gave me my shot. She said that I’ll want to ice it for 10 minutes, heat it for 10 minutes and repeat. She said to do this twice a day every day I get shots otherwise I will be in a lot of pain. I don’t know where I’m going to find all the time to do this. I already have to get up 2 hours early to go to the office and get my shot before work. I don’t have time to ice/heat/ice/heat my hips Damnit!

Oh and the best part, the shots are going to make me drowsy. Now isn’t that exciting? It will be like taking a sleeping pill and trying to stay awake while I drive to work and sit at my desk forcing myself not to fall face first on my desk. I can’t wait.

My BOOBS are exploding...

Wednesday June 7, 2006
I’m getting used to waking up early to go get my shot. I don’t have to wait too long now. They call me in quick and take care of business.

Today I went home to get dressed for work and put on one of my form fitting girl button up shirts and my boobs were exploding out the holes. I had to show Jory, we laughed. We can't really afford to have to purchase new clothes already. Aaaaand my boobs are big enough, everyone that knows me can tell you that!

It’s getting easier to work, I spend most my time on the pregnancy.org boards. Although I get real sleepy after my lunch, I might have fallen asleep for a second or two while working. Shhh!

2nd Ultrasound at 8 weeks

Monday June 12, 2006
We had our 2nd ultrasound today, currently 8 weeks along and we got to see the heartbeat! (Heart rate was 165) With our first U/S my doctor said it was growing like a boy...now he says 4 out of 5 it's a girl! Can't wait to finally find out!

3rd Ultrasound at 10 weeks!

Monday June 26, 2006
Here is my 3rd ultrasound at 10 weeks 1 day. Heart rate was 176 so we're believing more and more it may be a girl. Who knows? Starting to look a bit more like a baby instead of a blur though. The doctor had a hard time getting the heart rate because the baby woke up during the ultrasound. How F'ing Kool is that?

4th Ultrasound at 12 weeks

Monday July 10, 2006
My appointment today went well. I was surprised with a full exam, pap and all. My doctor broke my heart when he said we weren't doing an ultrasound! He tried to listen to the heartbeat with the doppler but we couldn't hear anything. So HURRAY he had to do an U/S! However, exciting and disappointing at the same time the baby was doing some serious gymnastics and wouldn't hold still so everytime he tried to get a good picture it was a big blur. So no 12 week pic for us.

I'm done with the progesterone shots, but still have to take the pills at least for the next week. Next appointment is July 20, praying for good u/s pics!

We've been keeping a secret...

I'm

I'm 3 months as of yesterday, we waited to say anything because we wanted to make it past the first trimester. Baby Johnson is due January 22nd and we don't know whether it's a boy or a girl yet. We want to thank everyone who has been there for us through our struggle for the last 5 years. We are extremely excited for this new adventure!

Dane Cook, nuff said.

I would be a little surprised if you didn't already know who Dane Cook is, but I'll forgive you if you don't. He's the No. 1 (Professional) Funny Fucker this year! (Jory, you're not professional so you are still the No. 1 (amateur) Funny Fucker!) I can't get enough of his comedy. Jory and I have been watching his Tourgasm on HBO every Sunday. Honestly it's the only reason I haven't cancelled HBO now that Big Love and The Sopranos seasons are over for the year. It's so hilarious, you should check it out.

Check Dane out on his website, www.DaneCook.com and listen to his podcast or clips of his CD "Retaliation". Or check him out on his MySpace or Tourgasm MySpace.

Here's a video so you can enjoy him now!

I'm a Quitter!

On May 29, 2006 I, Joey C. Johnson quit smoking cigarettes. It is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. I admit, I had one the first and second nights. I shared one with Jory the third night and the fourth night the first drag tasted like shit so I stopped there. I held on to that thought and haven't had one since. It has been 35 days since I quit and I still crave them. I'm passed the habit of smoking when I would have had one before; like after each meal, when I get in the car, when I call someone to chat, when I'm stressed out or simply need a break from whatever I'm doing.

In fact I passed a milestone a couple weeks ago. We had a very stressful situation occur, it was bad enough I was even crying. I don't cry often. It was not until after the ordeal had ended and Jory and I were laughing about it, that I realized, not once during the entire meltdown did I think about wanting to smoke. That's Fucking Amazing! I never thought I'd get to a point that I wouldn't think about smoking during any stressful situations!

There will be moments when I walk by smokers and gag from the smell. Then there are others when the smoke smells as good as fresh baked cinnamon rolls. I can definitely understand how people fall off the wagon so easily. I've smoked almost a pack a day for the last 11 years and I refuse to be a slave to the cigarette again, but I will miss my friend Mr. Smokey for the rest of my life.

RIP Mr. Smokey!

I Survived My Family Reunion!

I know I'm way behind on posting, sorry for being so lame.

Last weekend we packed the car up and headed north to Koosharem, Utah for a Kendrick Family Reunion. Where the Hell is that, you ask. Exactly, in the middle of F-ing no where! My father, not my dad (stepdad) but my DNA sharing Father recently finished building his legacy. It's a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with giant loft and garage vacation house with wrap-a-round deck. Apparently he bought either 700 or 7000 acres on top of this mountain above Koosharem, UT so he could build his Dream Home in the woods. Shane (my brother with the same father) and I are very excited to one day inherit this "legacy" and pass it on to our future child/ren.

We were entering the mountains north of Phoenix when we realized we'd forgot the camera! I'm sure everyone knows how much we love our camera and how many damn photos we take everywhere we go. So this was huge. I actually thought for a full minute about turning around to get it but if we did, we'd hit rush hour and that adds hours on to the commute north out of Phx. It already takes 45 minutes to drive through Phx, add rush hour to that and you're in for an additional hour.

Anway...this is the first time we have forgot our camera on any trip. It makes it almost pointless to post about the trip because I don't have photographs to share with you, so you can "see" what I'm talking about. However, I will share a few things that happened on our adventure.

This is the first time we have driven through the Reservation and into Page, AZ during sunset. It's beautiful during the day, but at sunset it's gorgeous! Plus because of the fire burning in south of the Grand Canyon the smoke was creating the craziest clouds and at one point covered the sun so you could stare directly into it and it was Blood Red. The clouds moved just enough to make it look like the sun was bleeding! This was the beginning of "I can't believe we forgot the camera" moments! Blood Red Sun that you could stare directly at. When is that EVER going to happen again?

We thought about buying a cheap digital camera at Walmart in Page but I couldn't picture myself purchasing a cheap camera, even that would have been the point. I would have had to buy a decent camera and a decent camera isn't going to be cheap.

To be continued on July 10th.

You're FIRED!

Remember my "Separation of Church and State?" post. The Mormons fired Jeffrey Nielsen, BYU Professor for speaking out publicly against the gay marriage amendment in the SLC Tribune.

"A letter dated June 8 from BYU Department of Philosophy Chairman Daniel Graham. "In accordance with the order of the church, we do not consider it our responsibility to correct, contradict or dismiss official pronouncements of the church," the letter reads. "Since you have chosen to contradict and oppose the church in an area of great concern to church leaders, and to do so in a public forum, we will not rehire you after the current term is over."

I'm not surprised one bit. I feel for the guy, but he had to know that was coming. I was a little shocked to read his response; "I have no desire to be anything but a member of the church," he said.

I can’t quite wrap my head around wanting to be part of a church whose power structure would actively harm me for publicly stating a belief.

Blurfing Again

Found BushYoga.com...so funny! For a good hardy laugh, click on the different yoga poses at the top. It's a pretty small site, but full of shrubbery goodness. I've never seen this video before; another example of Shrub's lack of intelligence. Wait here's another one! Then there's this hilariously (edited for your entertainment) movie created by Chris Morris. I've seen that one before, but wanted to share it with all of you!

You might be a child of the 80's if...

I'm sure you have all seen these before, but this is a detailed list and made me miss my Wonder Woman Underoos!

You wanted to be on Star Search.
You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off. Also when he had those freaky eyes in "Thriller" at the end of the video.
You wore a banana clip or one of those slap on wrist bands at some point during your youth.
You wore rolls on the bottom of your splatter painted jeans.
You had slouch socks, and puff painted your own shirt at least once.
You owned a doll with 'Xavier Roberts' signed on it's butt.
You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout."
You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off."
You can name at least half of the members of the elite "Brat Pack."
You can remember watching Full House and Saved by the Bell for endless hours.

You'll always hold a special place in your heart for "Back to the Future."
You know where to go if you "wanna go where everybody knows your name."
You thought Molly Ringwald was REALLY cool.
You know what "psych" means.
You fell victim to 80's fashion: big hair, crimped, combed over to the side, and you wore spandex pants.

You knew "The Artist" when he was humbly called "Prince."
You ever wore fluorescent—neon if you will—clothing...
You could breakdance, or wished you could.

"Poltergeist" totally freaked you out.
You carried your lunch to school in a Gremlins or an ET lunchbox.
You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female Smurf.
You wanted to communicate with Synergy, or you wanted green hair like that lead singer of the Misfits. See Jem.
You inserted the word "like" into, like, every sentence.
You wore biker shorts underneath a short skirt and felt stylish.
You ever had a Swatch Watch.
You actually spent countless hours trying to perfect the Care-Bear Stare.
You had a crush on one of the Coreys (Haim or Feldman).
You remember when Saturday Night Live was funny.
You had Wonder Woman or Superman Underoos.

Punks actually "shocked" people.
You wanted to be The Hulk or Rainbow Brite for Halloween.

You thought that Transformers were more than meets the eye.
You know what a "Whammy" is. ("No Whammy, no whammy, stop!")
Partying "like its 1999" seemed SO far away.
Songs by Debbie Gibson still haunt you to this day.
3 words: "Atari" "IntelliVision" and "Coleco". Sound familiar?
You remember the days that hooking your computer into your TV wasn't an expensive option that required gadgets - it was the ONLY WAY to use your computer!
You remember "Friday Night Videos" before the days of MTV.
You ever owned a pair of "Pop-Wheels"—that handy little combination of shoe and roller skate that lasted about a year on the open market.
You're PO'd that you couldn't really participate in the 60's, pissed that you were a part of the 70's, think you wasted too much time doing stupid, meaningless things in the 80's, and still have no clue what the 90's were all about.
While in high school, you and all your friends discussed elaborate plans to get together again at the end of the century and play "1999" by Prince over and over again.
You remember when music that was labeled "alternative" really was.
You were shocked and horrified at the Challenger explosion (which you were probably watching in school at the time).
You watched HR Puffenstuff as a child, but now that you're older, you really understand that it would have been much better had you known about drugs at the time.
You've recently horrified yourself by using any one of the following phrases:
"When I was younger"
"When I was your age"
"You know, back when..."
"Because I SAID so, that's why"
"What the HECK is this noise on the radio?"
"Just can't (fill in the blank) like I used to"
You can't remember a time when "going out for coffee" DIDN'T involve 49,000 selections to choose from.
Schoolhouse Rock played a HUGE part in how you actually learned the English language.
You ever dressed to emulate a person you saw in either a Duran Duran, Madonna, or Cyndi Lauper video.
At one point during your teenage years, you walked with a noticeable tilt to one side due to the number of plastic rings on that arm.
"Celebration" by Kool & the Gang was one of the hot new songs when you first heard it at a school dance.
The first time you ever kissed someone at a dance fell during "Crazy for You" by Madonna.
You ever owned one of those embarrassing crimping irons.
You used to hold in your head the thought that all those gold chains on Mr. T actually looked kinda cool and the thought that Mr. T made millions seemed rational to you at the time.
You remember with pain the sad day when the Green Machine hit the streets and made your old big wheel quite obsolete.
You've gotten this far on the list and aren't totally confused.
The phrase "Where's the beef?" still doubles you over with laughter.
You read the "Hot Video Games Player's Secrets" guide for Mortal Kombat just so you could find the hidden screen, and play Pong again for old time's sake
You're starting to believe that maybe 30 isn't so old after all, and it's those people over 40 you have to look out for.
Your hair, at some point in time in the 80's, became something which can only be described by the phrase "I was experimenting."
You've ever shopped at a Banana Republic or Benetton, but not in the last five years, okay?
You're starting to get that "why aren't you married yet" spiel, not just from parents, but now from friends that are married.
You ever wanted to be gagged with a spoon.
When someone mentions two consecutive days of the week, the Happy Days theme is stuck in your head for hours on end.
You remember "Hey, let's be careful out there."
You're parents wanted you to attend medical school, but you decided it was pointless since Quincy got all the babes, anyway.
You had a crush on Jon Bon Jovi, or knew someone who did.
You thought eating Reese's Pieces would attract your own Alien.
Your name is Jennifer or Jason.
You have ever called 867-5309.
You had a poster of Rob Lowe, Kirk Cameron, or Michael J. Fox on your wall.
You held the top score on Pac-Man.
You owned a t-shirt that said, "I shot J.R." or know someone who did.
This rings a bell: "and my name, is Charlie. They work for me."
You HAD to have your MTV.
You know what a "burnout" is.
You owned a Jordache anything, or you remember when Jordache jeans were cool.
You remember when Madonna was just hitting the scene.
You remember the original version of Windows: Macintosh.
You thought "Weird Science" was a masterpiece.
You remember any or all of the following: Echo & the Bunnymen, Cutting Crew, Scritti Politti, or Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark.
Chevy Chase was really funny in those vacation movies.
You actually know who Rick Springfield is.
You remember when film critics raved that no movie could ever possibly get better special effects than those in the movie TRON.
You jammed to the Miami Vice theme and thought Jan Hammer was cool.
Guys: You remember when a guy piercing his ear was radical to the max, but did it anyhow.

Blogger is being weird today so some of my links may or may not work and some of them are listed funny. For example Wonder Woman Underoos!
